Miami, Florida.

Alvarez, who grew up in Castro's Cuba, was driven to become a singer and songwriter from the time she was a child, and through a series of unimaginable trials and tribulations that life threw at her, including the untimely death of her husband and daughter. She never gave up on her musical dreams, nor did she allow the glowing flame that always lit her spirit to be extinguished.

Thanks to her grandson, film composer Carlos José Álvarez, who was so moved by his grandmother's exceptional talent and extraordinary life story that he assembled a team of world-class Grammy-winning musicians to help her record her remarkably profound songs, Ángela completed her eponymous debut album in 2021, the project that led to her historic Latin Grammy nomination and win tonight.

Angela's groundbreaking Latin Grammy win follows other important recent milestones in her career, including the release of a stunning documentary about her life entitled "Miss Angela," which was developed by filmmakers Paul Toogood and Lloyd Stanton and narrated by legendary actor Andy Garcia; as well as an appearance in the 2022 HBO movie "Father of the Bride," where she played the role of Tia Pili alongside Garcia.

Angela's life and music have inspired countless people to overcome even the most extreme adversity and accomplish their own goals. A shining example of resilience, she is living proof that any dream can become a reality, no matter how big or impossible it may seem.
